Organisatie Omschrijving

Fontys is an institute of higher education whose instructors encourage the development of the students' talents and expertise by providing an atmosphere in which all students are encouraged to spend one-on-one time with their instructors within a comprehensive curriculum.  Fontys is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands and offers a variety of bachelors and masters programmes in English. We have a larger number of international students than any other university in the Netherlands, with students of more than 80 nationalities from all over the world. Representing virtually all professions and market sectors, the Fontys environment strives to inspire, challenge, and equip every student with both knowledge relevant to the student's own professional aspirations as well as the ability to apply that knowledge in an international business setting. Fontys strives to educate all students to become flexible, " tech-savvy" professionals by concentrating on the development of their TEC-skills (Technology, Entrepreneurship, Creativity), which form a common thread throughout all departments and study programs.

Fontys Centre for Entrepreneurship (FCE)
From the very first moment that the actual running of a startup becomes the Fontys student's main focus, the activities needed do not fall within the academic environment of the Fontys educational facility. The Fontys Centre for Entrepreneurship (FCE) was created to offer aspiring (student)entrepreneurs every opportunity possible to succeed in their development toward successful business people in a very challenging and fast changing market environment. Additional efforts are directed toward maximizing the probability of successful completion of the Fontys study program(s) by giving time and attention to the students' individual companies.

Hoe wij aan de SDG's werken

The FCE supports and encourages potential student entrepreneurs within the specific discipline of entrepreneurship.  Individual students are accompanied in every step of the way toward starting up their own business. The presence of experts in their own fields who know the world of the entrepreneur enables the FCE to offer an environment which encourages the discovery of new business ideas, the preparation of a business model, the building of a dynamic organization, and finally the launch of a viable startup to all potential entrepreneurs.
Furthermore, the FCE forms a bridge between the knowledge sector and the market sector- an exciting and competitive setting in which calculated risks can be taken in order to achieve the desired outcome, namely a successful startup business combined with the student's course of study. The FCE extends a helping hand to student entrepreneurs during the completion of their studies in order to accompany them into the entrepreneurial business world.

Besides the abovementioned schemes, and programs, it is crucial for the FCE to keep abreast of social and economic changes and developments by offering additional options which meet the challenges posed by the marketplace.  In this fast paced world, there is an increasing demand for innovative solutions to these challenges, which are based on SDG. This social obligation takes top priority for them (impact first); just like normal companies, social organizations also provide products and services to the general populace. Making money is not seen as a purpose in itself, but rather as a means to make the world a better place. Monetary wealth thereby offers an added value to both the individual customer and to our collective society. It has the potential to create a better environment and provide for lowered costs, which has a positive knock-on effect on society.

Zo dragen wij bij aan de SDG's

The FCE has recently provided a further option to its present range, namely, social entrepreneurship.  Social entrepreneurship requires a different approach from the classical methods used to convert business ideas into a successful enterprise. The FCE has therefore, among other things, created a pressure cooker, which is focused on social entrepreneurship. In addition, the presently available programs offer an excellent springboard from the pressure cooker where students can confidently start with a business idea and end up with a successful business plan. This strategy has delivered confirmed results in the area in which about 150 students have been granted the official status of Fontys Student Entrepreneur. An additional ca 200 students are yearly enrolled in the Entrepreneurship minor. In addition, we confront every student entrepreneur with SDGs in order to start a business (minor, student entrepreneuship agreement, masterclasses). The FCE also started the Social Venturing project and is active in international projects such as CE3+ and Erasmus+ in order to help with SDG goals among young people. Thereby, we invest in personal entrepreneurship and (cross cultural) employability and use the EntreComp framework and its practice as a lifelong learning competence development methodology.
