International Flag Campaign: raise your flag for the SDG’s!

LEES DEZE INFORMATIE IN HET NEDERLANDS

At the end of September, all around the world the SDG-flag will be raised to show our support for the Sustainable Development Goals.  With the flag campaign, organisations, municipalities, companies, civil society organizations and schools show that they are part of this global movement for a better world. Will you join us?

From universities to embassies around the world; the flag will be flying everywhere starting Friday 23 September. In this way we show each other and the world that we value climate action, gender equality, biodiversity and fair work.

The flag campaign is an initiative of:

The SDG flag is made of sustainable cloth made from 100% recycled PET bottles and is available in Dutch and English.

We will send tips and inspiration to everyone who participates to the campaign to make the SDG flag day a great sustainable success!

In the meantime, do you have any substantive questions about the flag campaign? Send a mail to communication manager Thijs and we’ll get back to you.

If you have any technical questions regarding the ordering process: get in contact with DVC directly via the chat function on the website or by telephone on 051 922 8228.

Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity

The 17 SDGs are integrated—they recognize that action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability.

Countries have committed to prioritize progress for those who’re furthest behind. The SDGs are designed to end poverty, hunger, AIDS, and discrimination against women and girls.

The creativity, know how, technology and financial resources from all of society is necessary to achieve the SDGs in every context.

How does it work?

Find a nice, visible place where you can hoist the flag. On Friday September 23, we will do it all together, but before and after that is also allowed.

Take a photo or video of the flag and share it on social media. Pro-tip: It’s always good to see faces in the image: that way everyone knows who is participating.

Use the hashtag #samenvoordeSDGs or #togetherfortheSDGs and #turnitaround.

Talk to each other about how you can contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

What else can I do?

Try to bring together a committed core within your company, organization or school or appoint an SDG ambassador, who will become the point of contact for everyone who wants to contribute to achieving the goals.

Take part in the AWorld Raise the SDG Flag Challenge. See more information on how to take part below.

Put your sustainable heroes in the spotlight. For example: the people who have worked on ecological or social sustainability this year. You can publish their photos or stories on social media or give a prize while raising the flag.

Involve children and young people in the action. Challenge them to come up with creative solutions for SDG challenges or put them to work creatively, for example by marking and painting their sustainable dreams on self-made flags.

If corona measures allow it: organize a sustainability market to put local sustainable initiatives and entrepreneurs in the spotlight.
